Swirlies – Sneaky Flutes/ Sneaky Flute Music – Review

Swirlies

Sneaky Flutes/ Sneaky Flute Music (Taang!)
by Joshua Brown

This EP is a taster for the upcoming Swirlies LP. The first (and best) track is abstract melodic noise with an early Sebadoh/Pavement feel (it also has a Swirlies feel, but saying so would be redundant). A throwaway acoustic number ensues, followed by a good example of what happens when twentysomethings in a protracted adolescence discover the magic of a Casio (please don’t try this at home, kids!). The rest of the CD is “let’s get baked by the stone cliffs of Mission Hill and don’t forget the hand-held tape recorder” material.
