Harriet the Spy – Review

Harriet the Spy

Soundtrack (Castle)
by Clarendon Lavorich

“Why,” I asked myself, “did I ever agree to take this?” By “this,” I’m referring to the Nickelodeon movie soundtrack Harriet The Spy, which not only looks like a kiddie thriller with Rosie O’Donnell, but has (ugh) Jill Sobule on it? Because, if you look further, there’s James Brown and the luscious Eartha Kitt! But still, it’s kinda hard to take at first. The music starts with superficial hip-hop (the kind found only in dentist’s offices), but luckily progresses into a great exotica sound. Well, it’s great in a kids’-soundtrack-kind-of-way in that it doesn’t get too deep, but stays exciting. Altogether unimposing, yet unexpected music, and that’s good. What’s better is that the Sobule tune is last, so you can just stop the CD without missing anything!
