KMFDM – Symbols – Review

KMFDM

Symbols (Wax Trax/TVT)
by Lex Marburger

I assume that if you’re into industrial, you obviously know that the new KMFDM is out on Wax Trax/TVT. The name consists of five symbols (perhaps a Led Zeppelin influence?), so it’s pretty much unpronounceable. Anyway, as expected, these guys do KMFDM better than anybody. Strangely, or maybe not, they also reference Neubauten with a track entitled “Leid und Elend” (Sorrow and Misery). Sounds nothing like Bargeld and co., tho’. Helping them out this time are such luminaries as Ogre, Tim Skold, Bill Rieflin, and Ramond Watts. Speaking of Watts, he’s got a new Pig album out, called Wrecked (Wax Trax/TVT). A solid mix of beats and guitars, Watts edges his way into the territory held by Reznor five years ago. Not that that’s a terribly bad thing, he plays around with time and sound in a way that’s kinda cool. You’ll get your money’s worth.
