Hecate Enthroned – Upon Promeathean Shores – Review

Hecate Enthroned

Upon Promeathean Shores (Metal Blade)
by Scott Hefflon

The re-mix of An Ode For A Haunted Wood, this album was originally released by Blackened, is now distributed by the re-animated Death label (a division of Metal Blade) a year or so later, was sent to Lollipop within a few months, and is being reviewed and printed another six months or so later. Welcome to time lag. Yes, as if Upon… is going to age badly. This record coulda been recorded last night, three years ago, or three years from now and it wouldn’t matter. Evil is eternal, screams of pain linger in the mind, and dark arrangement of sweeping beauty and lurking death will never go out of style anymore than they’ve ever truly been in style. England’s Hecate Enthroned use keyboards sporadically to compliment the screaming and barrage of guitars, the drumming usually stuck on hyperspeed except during the dramatic intros and occasional bridges. For the most part, it’s full steam ahead, the highway to hell commentated by your twisted tour guide, the guy with the face paint screaming throatily into the microphone.
