Excruciating Terror – Divided We Fall – Review

Excruciating Terror

Divided We Fall (Pessimiser)
by Scott Hefflon

I think it’s pretty clear that I dislike mindless grind, but something about Divided We Fall hits me just right. Similar to A.C. in that each song is short, abrasive, brutal, loud, and overall, interchangeable with all the rest, I kinda like this Excruciating Terror release the way I like Peter Tägtgren’s more straight-ahead death metal projects. This is funny the way A.C. used to be. Twenty-one songs in 30 minutes, all demon bellow/throat-clearing vocals, “I wrote a riff, let’s make it a song!” guitarwork, and, um, mad drumming. Great, shredding production along the lines of the crisp, Euro-metal bands, this California three-piece just made it to the stack of throat-ripping noise I listen to when aggression is beyond clever lyrics and I want a barrage of pure, mindless chaos.
