Indecision – To Live and Die in New York City – Review

Indecision

To Live and Die in New York City (Exit)
by Tim Den

I’ve become a big, if not most unlikely, fan of Indecision. Since I heard their split with Shai Hulud, I’ve been strangely hypnotized by their metallic hardcore assault. I usually despise shit like this! Indecision does it well enough (and not-cheesy enough) for me to blast this in my room while doing air flips. Sure, they have the chug-chug guitars, breakdown beats with tom rolls, and lyrics about self-analysis that make me want to dismiss them as more sheep in the herd… but I can’t. Indecision is much more entertaining than their contemporaries. They get your groove on. Songs like “Hello Cruel World,” “Purgatory,” and “Hallowed Be Thy Name” seem possessed with power and determination, and they don’t let up until you’ve exhausted every breath. And although new vocalist Artie Phillie (ex-Milhouse) takes a while to get used to (especially since he has given up his trademark spazz growls for more of a traditional roar), his voice fits in after a few listens. I have to admit I liked former vocalist Tom Sheehan better – even though it was kind of high and weird, it was original. To Live and Die in New York City is the first step into a new era for these Brooklyn boys. Extra points for the Buffalo 66 sound clips, too.
