Never liked AFI, don’t think I ever will. Too much brow-cringing momentum and no real innards. Okay, so this album’s a lot “heavier” and “more hardcore” than their other stuff, but I don’t see it as an improvement. One album they’re Guttermouth, another they’re Ensign? What the hell? Headbands and piercings don’t – and shouldn’t – transform a band from punk to hardcore (why would you want that anyway?). And neither does “dark” album artwork/photography. No matter what musical genre you play, bad songs are bad songs. And here’s an album full of them.
