Like early ’90s Fat bands, Cigar‘s drumming is so damn fast, you spend almost as much time respecting the drummer as enjoying the tunes. With fast chord changes, singable melodies, and sweet harmonies (yet not hugely layered), Cigar are like a pleasant memory of early Lagwagon, without Joey Cape’s signature vocals. But as the debut of this three-piece from Portland, OR, recently relocated to San Diego, CA, Speed is Relative (produced by Pennywise’s Fletcher Dragge) marks the start of something good.
