Metlo – Review

Metalo!

(Grita!)
by Tim Den

This here’s something that should’ve come out a long time ago: A compilation of high profile (and some local) Latino heavy metal bands. Long known for their infatuation with loud guitars and double kick drums, Latin Americans have been producing their own breed of aggressive music as far back as the beginning of the metal genre itself. However, not many groups have received mainstream attention for one reason or another. Maybe they needed stronger label support? Well, it took the labels a while to realize that, but at least they finally did. Metalo!, a fourteen-tracker featuring Espanol con rocka dura, is here to reveal a scene unexplored by the longhairs of North America. Filled with no-holds-barred carnage, this sampler not only proves that there’s definitely talent within the Latin scene, but that the talent really kicks some ass. The likes of Puya, Ratos De Porao, and Armored Saint (huh?) all flex their musical muscles, as the kings of Mexican brutality Brujeria put the icing on this piece of cake that will regurgitate your guts before you can say “Santa Maria.” Other paisanos include Pissing Razors, Criminal, Makina, Ill Nino, Ramp, Lodo Y Asfalto, Brutal Thin, Raimundos, Laberinto, and A.N.I.M.A.L.
