Cloud Eleven – Review

Cloud Eleven

(Del-Fi 2000)
by Tim Den

What a gem of an album. Maybe I’m a neo-hippie wannabe, but I just can’t get enough of that warm, Merseybeat-era power pop. Cloud Eleven just can’t get enough either. Filled with Rickenbacker distortion and “back beat,” this debut is everything power pop should be. Loud, unabashed hooks, simple (yet bitterly sweet) vocals, down-to-Earth recording (all done on 1″ tape by the main songwriter), and images of sci-fi technology circa ’50. How fun. Think Jason Falkner, Matthew Sweet, Pet Sounds-era Beach Boys, Left Banke, The Byrds, The Beatles. Get this and enjoy what pop is all about.
