Face To Face – Ignorant is Bliss – Review

Face To Face

Ignorant is Bliss (Beyond)
by Scott Hefflon

With the confidence of one of the hardest touring bands in the land, Face to Face take the risky step from highly respected pop/punk band to powerpop/alternarock with their latest, Ignorance is Bliss. The self-produced, 50+ minute release displays Face to Face’s penchant for writing driving pop as well as brooding rock and the always-appreciated punkpop classic.

With guitars as fat and juicy as a steak at your favorite steakhouse, bass lines that knock and kick like a fine-tuned muscle car, powerhouse drumming by newcomer Pete Parada, and the distinctive and passionate vocals of Trevor Keith, Ignorance is Bliss has all the elements fans around the world have come to know and love from the band, but it also illuminates a higher level of songwriting. Mixed amidst the playful tunes of summer picnics playing Frisbee with your dog and peppy numbers to bop your head to while cruising to and fro, there are definite ponderings of life, the universe and everything in quiet moments. A strumming guitar, a pulse-like beat, bass as calming as lulling waves, and Trevor’s voice asking thoughtful questions, soaked in reverb and introspection – these are the moments of clarity both for the band and for the listener.
