Thegodshatekansas – For Snakes – Review

Thegodshatekansas

For Snakes (New Disorder/Bad Monkey)
by Tim Den

The only thing more vague than this disc’s artwork is the band’s style. Okay, it’s indie rock, it has some singing… but does it really qualify as singing? It’s not like there’re melodic vocal lines per se. There’re some pretty rockin’ beats and a bit of palm muting, but does that make it “heavy?” It sure doesn’t sound “heavy,” like hardcore or metal. Of course, there’s plenty of Fugazi influence here, but what indie rock band doesn’t have that? Man, this is weird. Weird and vague. Catchy, after a while, but only because of its flowing, easy-going arrangement. Easy to bop your head to, but not easy to label. Maybe that’s the way they like it…
