Sixteen Deluxe – The Moonman is Blue – Review

Sixteen Deluxe

The Moonman is Blue (Sugar Fix)
by Tim Den

Bouncy, fuzzy garage rock that at times has melodies like Sonic Youth and Imperial Teen. The female lead vocalist usually sounds “along for the ride” – not too bright, not too low, just chillin’ and spewing the pop. A tendency to mix in experimental noise and jumpy beats is definitely a plus. Sixteen Deluxe is obviously a very ambitious garage pop band, trying to mix in lots of styles but retain their own identity. With The Moonman is Blue, they’ve succeeded in keeping their fuzz-pop roots of The Go-Gos and L7 while taking the rest of the garage tools into their amplifiers to make some unusual noise.
