The Frownies

The Frownies are a three-piece punk band from South Carolina which, as the bio points out, is located just south of North Carolina. While much is the standard punk fare – peppy paces, melodies that are fun to sing along with but don’t exactly follow you into the shower, and plenty of group yells/harmonies to make them a good show to see – The Frownies throw some nice sudden changes into the music (the kinda stuff that, once you know it’s coming, causes you to jerk dramatically and air drum/guitar, even in mid-conversation), not to mention their nice, noisy, dirty sound. This’d be good for punks who like rock, but think most emo is yelpy, limp pop with not nearly enough of that good ol’ guitar noise. The Frownies have melodies without sounding like polished pop-punk, and rawking guitars without sacrificing the singable quality.
