Factory 81 – Mankind – Review

Factory 81

Mankind (Mojo)
by Scott Hefflon

Sounds like Rage ATM. And like ATMs, these fuckin’ things are everywhere. Actually, Factory 81 also mixes in some Tool tenderness, but seeing as the singer can’t hold a tune with both hands, that’s not a good thing. Actually, there’s very little Rage ATM in here, but the mewling didn’t start until after I’d heard the nasal rapping. I keep trying to like these guys (they sucked less than most as they geeked their way through Cypress Hill’s “Insane in the Brain” on Take a Bite Outta Rhyme), but then I listen to them too closely and realize they float between predictably thunderously dull (all crushing production with not a thing to say that hasn’t been said better for half a decade or more) and flat out bad (the singer can’t sing; why didn’t anyone tell him that before he recorded this?). I keep thinking Factory 81, like Nonpoint, have hope, but they seem to think they’ve arrived when they’ve barely begun. Encourage the kids, sure, but convince them to say in school cuz they still have a lot to learn.
