Naglfar – Ex Infertis – Review

Naglfar

Ex Infertis (Century Media)
by Scott Hefflon

Just a quick five-song EP (two new, two from a 7″, and a cover of Massacre’s “Dawn of Eternity”) to remind fans that the Relapse-licensed bit of malevolence wasn’t a fluke, and that Naglfar is back with some brutal new material and a new member or two. While it’d be hard to pinpoint specifically where this EP falls in the grand total continuum of all things black and scary, it’s short, tuneful, and gloriously-produced. Not exactly toppling Cradle of Filth or nuthin’, more kinda chumming up with Darkthrone in the dirtier end of the pool, just so you know the shade of black. The two new tunes are – get this – “Of Gorgons Spawned Through Witchcraft” and “Emerging From Her Weepings.” The packaging is beautiful, with lyrics occupying a full color panel opposite a photo of a band member looking menacing.
