Pleasant Grove – Review

Pleasant Grove

(Last Beat)
by Tim Den

Lethargic combination of Pavement’s vocals, Wilco’s country vibe, and Bedhead’s minimalism (without the noise). Soothing, almost lullaby-like for the broken hearted. The lo-fi recording evokes a sense of “home grown” earthiness, one that enhances the man-down-on-his-luck-singing-the-blues feel of the disc (no, they don’t actually play blues). They wouldn’t be out of place on a bill with Wheat and Bright Eyes.
