Ring, Cicada – Good Morning, Mr. Good – Review

Ring, Cicada

Good Morning, Mr. Good. (54′ 40′ or Fight!)
by Tim Den

First, a strong showing on The Socomtonar Collection: Volume 1, now a Steve Albini-recorded full-length… Things are looking up for Ring, Cicada. Rattling trademark Midwestern bass tones drilling against walls of dissonant guitars, occasionally offering vocals (a fairly new experiment for this once-instrumental band) that yelp more than sing. If the opening of “La Renard” has you fast-forwarding through the vocals, fear not: The rest of the album is fairly instrumental, with the yelping eventually coming back much better controlled.
