Some of us remember when alternative music was actually the alternative to shitty music. It was often called college rock. It was often noisy rock, with some dissident bashing, but they understood U2 and Rolling Stones, even if the bands stomped in small clubs instead of arenas. By choice, maaan. Alaska! play real alternative music. They can pen the clever lyrics and the hooks, but they also like a little feedback and drone and anti-tune bashing (there’re also big open spaces, but that stuff kinda bores me). Made up of veterans of Lowercase, Sebadoh, and Red Aunts, these folks know their craft.
