Pela – All in Time – Review

All in Time (Brassland)
by Scott Hefflon

Pela skates dangerously close to an over-hyped trendy indie rock band, but that’s the culture, not the songwriting, and that’s what saves them. The songs seem to take a while to build, but they’re nice once they speak up. The singer does a Flaming Lips falsetto thing I’m not a fan of, but scores of people dig it, so there ya are. Just a little five-song EP with slow and gentle songs, not loud keyboards and no yelping or posing. So look passed the Brooklyn posers and “on a fast-rising label” crap, and just listen. Get ’em on the mp3 CD, and show it can be done well.
