The Old Haunts – Fallow Field – Review

Fallow Field (Kill Rock Stars)
by Scott Hefflon

Nice! Good to hear Olympia, WA and Kill Rock Stars can still kick out vital rock’n’roll. An insular, self-congratulatory community can often lead to releasing shit your trendy friends like, but no one else gives two shits about, and most “music journalists” compete to say the most clever nice things so they can get quoted. The Old Haunts need no padded commentary, they smoke. The three members have been in enough bands, big and small, to know how to do it, and they choose to do it dirty. Not ironic, clever dirty, just blowing amps and jumping around basements for fun, like unselfconscious rock bands have done since rockabilly showed ’em how. Not stoner rock drone’n’groove, not hip, vintage posing, this is just jumpy, peppy, get up and dance, fool, rock. Get ’em on the mp3 CD to show KRS still has the goods.
