Clutch – Robot Hive Exodus- Review

Someone finally lit a fire under Clutch‘s ass, and they wake up from the stoner snooze they’ve been in for the last few records. Stupid name aside, this sucker’s got soul, brother. Got that vintage keyboard thing going (yeah, keyboards in Clutch songs, and it works), and both boogie and funk. And Neil really belts it out, which is cool, cuz his voice was getting deeper and more guttural, and tired. I got the feeling the positive reviews for the plodding records was more supporting a lifer band in a slump, and I always felt the need to disclaim “Hell yeah, Clutch rocks! But, uh, they’re last few records were kinda lifeless.” Something finally clicked, and Clutch is again lively, engaging, thigh-slapping, head-bobbing, and, like, you can clap along, like at a revival, ya know? Best Clutch record in a long time, and I own ’em all.
