The Hurt Process – A Heartbeat Behind – Review

A Heartbeat Behind (Victory)
by Scott Hefflon

Funny, I usually hate this stuff, this completely formulaic and calculated mix of hardcore roar and emo yearning, but I like The Hurt Process. Kinda. Before the dumb screaming (which is pretty solid, for what it is) makes me reach for the remote, the pussy vocals come in, all the right notes are hit (even if it’s the same notes held dramatically in every song), and before being sickened by that, they step on the distortion and yell some more. People actually like a lot worse bands than this, and the dramatic sweep closing out the last song hints at serious potential. (Well, The Anniversary and Muse run circles around even their potential, but those bands rule(d), and The Hurt Process are new and young. But let’s not bash the kids for not achieving such heights right out of the starting gate. Let’s encourage them to grow.)
