Rich Man’s War… Poor Man’s Fight (Lifeforce)
by Scott Hefflon

Buffalo NY’s Herod release their second full-length for Lifeforce. Tight musicianship, lovely layering of guitar ass-shake, and a vocalist who’s not barking or doing his best Cookie Monster imitation. Which means the singer sounds human, which is nice, but a little too glam for my taste, even when I have a ham sandwich and need some cheese. The warble is only part of the style, kids. Having survived the late ’80s with only massive liquid therapy to quell the spandexed screams, I recall actually hitting all those high notes being mildly important. But layered flat vocals may be some new subgenre I’m unaware of. It makes me shudder like a big gulp of old, flat champagne.
