Bastard Son (Century Media)
by Rick Florino

With Bastard Son, Watch Them Die serve a raw brand of metal butchery, rare these days. The band couples Eyehategod’s urgent brutality with intricate, catchy guitars, especially on tracks like “Bastard Son” and “Throne of Lies.” Intelligible, but brutally ripping vocals stand out along with some creepy spoken word on the seven-minute “Born to Suffer.” Their metal and hardcore influences remain prominent, but they manage to craft a unique brand of American metal with an unsettling unpredictability. In the end, Bastard Son will further propel Watch Them Die on their gripping path of musical destruction.
