Black Horse (Bhurr/RCD)
by Scott Hefflon

Great production from this Windsor, Ontario band (one mile of water separates the city from Detroit Rock City). If “active rock” was like this instead of Nickleback, I think more people who know good music from shit wouldn’t gag when they heard it. There are stoner groove moments, total metal power, a kinda Sebastian Bach snarl (but no eyeliner or hair tosses, and no falsetto, just the mid-range snarl), and some glorious dark rock sleaze, like if The Crüe were from Detroit and pissed, instead of from L.A. and gettin’ laid so much they lost their hunger. “Century” sounds like Warrior Soul with far heavier production, and if that doesn’t mean anything to you, you have some research to do, kiddo. Get this band on the mp3 CD immediately.
