Valient Thorr – Immortalizer – Review

Immortalizer (Volcom)
by Scott Hefflon

Like Bon Scott-era AC/DC? So do Valient Thorr. Three records deep, their second for Volcom, and while certain songs have solos to impress, Bon was a one-of-kind vocalist, and decent riffs and a handfulla good solos does not an Angus make. Better than your average suburban metal tribute band, but the vocals are hardcore shouty a lot (aka the singer can’t sing very well), and the guitarwork is interesting during solos and intros, but pretty mediocre in the context of the song. “Red Flag” is an exception, but one “Whole Lotta Rosie” done Metallica style isn’t enough to save an album from could-be-better-ism.
