Bleeding Through – Declaration – Review

Declaration (Trustkill)
by Scott Hefflon

The Truth was actually a pretty kick-ass record from end to end, for those who still buy CDs and listen to them from end to end. Perhaps a little melodramatic and “I’m going to roar bad poetry about being dumped by a girl,” but those are the expectations of the times. The songs were solid, once you got passed the eyeliner and the whining pussiness. Declaration wants to show you its balls, and while kinda polished and pretty, they’re pretty big and bold at first glance.

Real metal bands like Strapping Young Lad, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, and others must grit their teeth and say supportive things of Metal 101 bands like this, but they’ve got the melodic know-how and brutality-for-brutality’s-sake in them – not to mention the attention of the young metal masses, and killer production – now all they have to do is incorporate all they know and all the potential they’ve shown they have and write real songs with real lyrics. This stuff is fine live at Ozzfest or in some video game you’ll play for a few months, but to transcend hype and become a great band that’ll be referenced for years to come, ya really gotta PUSH YOURSELF, understand?
