Downfall of Gaia have a thoughtful, expansive take on metal, one that seems perfectly in sync with the foggy, monochrome mountain-scape on the album cover for Suffocating in the Swarms of Cranes. That doesn’t stop them from incorporating some bursts of brutal black metal sometimes, though. Hear the best of both worlds on “In the Rivers Bleak.”
