Metropolis reissues KMFDM’s Opium and WWIII

With a very successful release of their critically-hailed 18th album KUNST earlier this year, legendary industrial pioneers KMFDM will be reissuing their albums OPIUM and WWIII on October 22, 2013 via Metropolis Records. In addition, they will be bringing their “Ultra Heavy Beat” for their second North American tour in 2013 (tour dates below).

Originally released in 1984 on a limited run of 200 cassettes, KMFDM’s debut release Opium is a raw and untempered album that began their reign as leaders of the industrial revolution. Kicking off with the pulverizing mechanical rhythm of “Fix Me Up”, Opium is the genesis that would later spawn over three decades of music. As Sascha Konietzko told The Plague, this wasn’t so much an album as it was “like a demo, made under the most horrid conditions with absolutely no money at all.” Still, it offers a glimpse and the perfect starting point in the origins of the band.

Their 13th album WWIII is a very upfront and confrontational attack on George W. Bush’s presidency and his abuse of politics. Originally released in 2003, WWIII tackles the US policy at the time in a fierce and unrelenting fashion. The slow build of the massively epic opening title track is a call to arms, complete with their trademark breakneck drums and shouted chants. Sputnik Music called it , “KMFDM’s arguably most aggressive album… a furious, aggressive, mastodon of an album.”

Opium and WWIII will be re-released on October 22, 2013 via Metropolis Records.
