They say there’s nothing new under the sun, and I agree. Denmark’s Trader feels catapulted from the ’90s, influenced by riff-heavy, introspective fare like Hum and the era’s lo-fi indie rock, such as Sebadoh. Throw in some Dinosaur Jr., too. There’s a wall-of-sound thickness and emo feel to “Gold Star Crosshair.” The guitars are prominent, the mien is melancholy, and thematically, the song deals with the love of life, the fear of losing it, and if we have control over fate. There are also anxiety-ridden high notes ping-ponging over a third of the composition. Hungry? Have a Danish while you listen.
