Metallica’s lack of adrenaline is primarily due to their songwriting strategy of submerging power ballads beneath their traditional guitar chugging techniques.
Catchy, melodic punk with Joey Cape’s vocal tales digging deep, but the NOFXian drum rampage seem secondary to layered harmonies about how no one understands.
Killing Floor is a full band who seem to fall into an area of borderline metal with some electronics. Geez, except for a few loops, it reminds me of grunge.
It’s got all the right “yeah, yeah”s, “woo, woo”s, and looping rounds of the chorus. At times, they swerve from SoCal rawk to sound kinda, um, Jersey rock.
This six song EP is a pleasant, although not too radical, departure from the “Spin the Bottle” type of alterna-pop Ms. Hatfield has graced us with recently.
“I Am the Victim” is a beyond-improbable genre splice: Part Op Ivy, part-Biohazard, and part-Four Seasons (sans falsetto). These guys deserve to be rock stars.
