I’m liking the latest trend in Hollywood. It seems that more and more filmmakers are no longer afraid to end a film on a downbeat note or with a shocking surprise.
The premise of What Lies Beneath turns out to be strikingly similar to that of Stir of Echoes. In short, a presence is making itself known in order to shed light on how its earthly body was murdered.
I don’t know about you, but I believe any film could’ve been rendered more effective with the addition of flesh-ripping zombies. Something about dead and decayed people trying to eat warm, live people really strikes me as beautiful cinematography.
It opens with the ominous white on black statement “in 1999, 400 young filmmakers set out to parody the Blair Witch, but only one film starred Linda Blair.”
Just in time for Halloween, the latest Hollywood bandwagon seemed to be the good ol’ fashioned ghost story, as evidenced by the Sixth Sense, the Haunting and finally, House on Haunted Hill.
Many of this year’s offerings are nicely packaged effects-enhanced rip-offs. Even Blair Witch Project copies another lesser known, more controversial film.
One of the longest enduring themes in the horror movie genre has been the vampire film. There always is a large audience attracted to all things vampirific.
I just got back from another Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. I went to see was Dario Argento, who happens to be the greatest director in the entire universe.
The premise is simple: Some scumbags do something really nasty to some pretty nice folks, and then those nice folks get to kill the crap out of the scumbags.
