While Earthwurm’s debut, Sex and Anxiety, evidently had more hip-hoppy metal on it, but luckily Blank the Same is more traditional, passionate rock/metal.
A fave Colorado punk band (and there’s a surprising number of good bands from the state that gave us Coors and Mork & Mindy, in case you haven’t noticed).
The reasons this sucks are many. Most obviously: This style is now commonplace, unlike when Speak English or Die! came out and knocked us all on our asses.
Both Dimmu Borgir and Old Man’s Child have sounded “better,” but there’s a charm to hearing quickly thrown together material with less-than-huge production.
There’s a haunting, thick sludge of melody that makes them something other than just another tuneless, lo-fi band pounding noisily away hoping it’s art.
