The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – Question the Answers – Review

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

Question the Answers (Mercury)

About halfway through the first song, “Kinder Words,” I realized I had no kind words for the Mighty Mighty sell-outs. The release does have some sparkling moments of either high energy dance mania or inspiring horn arrangements, but either Dicky opens his mouth or they commercialize the songs into pasteurized soon-to-be classic rock.

While radio friendly, it ends up sounding more like bad TV theme songs. The cover of “Detroit Rock City” isn’t nearly as stylin’ as “Sweet Emotion,” “Enter Sandman,” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love” from their Taang EP. (One of the last vital release THEY had, but that’s a different bitch.) While Boston was swamped with tourists/fans for five sold out shows at the Middle East, some of us rue the day the industry (and the band) starting taking this Boston band so seriously.
