Voodoo Glow Skulls – Firme – Review

Voodoo Glow Skulls

Firme (Epitaph)
by Joshua Brown

If you ask this heard-just-about-everything-but-still-not-jaded music critic, Voodoo Glow Skulls kick ass on most every ska band since the Specials, Mighty Mighty notwithstanding. They have the enthusiasm and vigor of school children at the recess bell. This is an energy that many a proto-skamonger would feign but very few can lay claim to. The last time I remember hearing the real thing was with British punksters the Toy Dolls. V.G.S. have existed in relative obscurity but with a loyal fanbase on Dr. Strange Records. Epitaph finally had the good sense to sign them. They play super-quick without missing a beat. They whisk you away on a fearless trip over the edge. It’s something I’d get better air with if I wore a walkman snowboarding.
