Anubian Lights – The Jackal and Nine EP – Review

Anubian Lights

The Jackal and Nine EP (Cleopatra)
by Lex Marburger

Long ago, Hawkwind set the stage for space exploration. They charted the depths of the universe, looking for the ancient spark of life, turning simple songs into grand orchestrations of infinite width. Nik Turner never forgot, and soon turned to technology, creating ambient techno pieces, things that were deeper than dancing, and more than hearing. Now, Turner has met up again with an old Hawkwind partner, Len Del Rio, and they have created Anubian Lights, a project that explores the possibilities of Egyptian structures and UFO’s. Pyramids loom large in the musical landscape, and the sphinx raising her dusty head, looks puzzled.

Contemplate the mysteries of the Nile Delta as the gentle musical pulsing washes into your brain. The songs are soothing and celestial, they open the mind to the possibilities of life, to areas of the galaxy as yet unheard of, unexplored. Streams of light from Sirius, the Dog Star, sift through the cracks in time, tapping you on the shoulder and giving secrets, whispering answers to ancient puzzles. Anubis, jackal-headed, beats his scepter in an ancient rhythm, bringing comfort to the souls he gathers. The Jackal and Nine EP is a new step in cosmic consciousness, a mystical use of technology.
