Both Worlds – Beyond Zero Gravity – Review

Both Worlds

Beyond Zero Gravity (Another Planet)
by Tim Creter

From the opening razor-edged riff and punch-in-the-face vocals of “Militant,” Both Worlds lets you know that this is no weak-hearted effort. The arrival of this EP marks the triumphant return of NYHC legend John Joseph to the public’s eye. He never really left New York, but this return to the studio is a thousand points added to his integrity. Both Worlds has been a project on and off for a few years, but they finally got it together to make this impressive opus. Backed by the capable Leeway, the former voice of the Cro-Mags retains his vocal power and attitude with this release. The new sound presented here is a step up from hardcore in that it’s heavy, but it’s taken a step in the direction of the Rollins Band. Authoritative vocals, ten-ton bass, walls of guitar, and loud drums, all churning out a solid rock groove. The band here sounds completely different, with A.J. Novello’s six-string work sounding better and more original than ever. Over this superb musical foundation, John Joseph rants and yells about the things that piss him off – lies, injustice, hate, and basically the whole world. Four songs that go for the jugular. You can only imagine what they sound like live. Both Worlds has entered our world with a tidal wave of force and might. We can only hope that this isn’t just a one time deal, that John Joseph will be put back firmly into the music scene. Get this, get this, get this.
