Out of Order – Eye Carumba – Review

Out of Order

Eye Caramba (Theologian)
by Valerie Lambert

This album snuck up on me in a major way. I’d never paid much attention to these guys before, and I wasn’t expecting that much from Eye Caramba when I first put it on. The joke’s on me, though – what a great album! There are a lot of ska-core bands out there these days, and I have to say that Out of Order is one of the best. Some of the songs on Eye Caramba are straight-up ska, like my personal favorite, “Retribution” (which has a cool Latin sound). Then there are the combo ska/punk songs, like “Twistin’ the Cap,” which is packed with energy.

After listening to this album over and over, I must admit I’m addicted. The album does have its low points. Sometimes their music is a bit generic (the punk songs in particular), but the melodies and lyrics often make up for anything lacking. I’m not too fond of “Ignorant Son,” which has an old-school ska beat but a really unpleasant-sounding, rough chorus. I’ll forgive them these few moments of weakness, though, because the good more than makes up for the bad.
