Knapsack – Day Three of My New Life – Review

Knapsack

Day Three Of My New Life (Alias)
by Sheril Stanford

Like your music shiny, soft and manageable, yet full of body? Then you need Knapsack‘s most recent offering, Day Three of My New Life. Knapsack gently but effectively removes the residue that can weigh you down, using an exclusive blend of all-natural ingredients – smart, enigmatic lyrics delivered with vocals both imploring and roaring, barely restrained anti-tuned guitar intros, backed by steady, almost gentle rhythms, ultimately erupting into jagged explosions of roaring discord and sonic overflow, and back again. Lather, rinse, repeat. Take “Decorate the Spine” – “We’re hopeless and helpless, we’re not who we might prefer, god knows I know I’m not sure (shit?) but I decorate the spine for her,” set to equal parts shuttered restraint and shattering roar. Add a pinch o’ this here, a dollop of that there, and voila! another succulent song, from the deliciously driving “Henry Hammers Harder” to “Simple Favor,” ornamented with forlorn, fading feedback. Specially formulated to add inner strength and outer shine, “Boxing Glove,” is a luxurious blend of descending bass lines, ascending guitar and vocals, with a generous quantity of rapid fire rhythms to maintain vital moisture and elasticity. “Diamond Mine” is rich with slow, spare rhythms and earnest, gritty vocals, and it’s color safe. Best of all, you can use Day Three of My New Life with a clear conscience – Knapsack does not engage in animal testing.
