Dark Awakening – Vol. 1 – Review

February 22, 2002

Half really good songs, a few decent ones, and a few that make me wonder how anyone can produce such shit. Good diversity on both the electro and Gothic CDs.

Quasi – The Sword of God – Review

February 22, 2002

The duo of Sleater Kinney’s Janet Weiss and Sam “Puffy” Coomes (he of Heatmeiser and Elliot Smith sidemandom) are local heroes here in Portland, Ore-gone.

Puya – Union – Review

February 22, 2002

Stuttering and annoying much of the time (with the tendency to work the band name into the lyrics), Puya bring a cool percussive take to a played-out sound.

Professional Murder Music – Review

February 22, 2002

Nice, dark, electronic-infused heavy brooding music. A debut. These guys have hints of depth. A decent cover of the Cure’s “A Night Like This” dimly sparkles.

Postal Blue – Review

February 22, 2002

Kinda like The Smiths with Starflyer 59 vocals. Very sensual, very melodic, very scene-setting.

Gary Numan – Pure – Review

February 22, 2002

Pure has that certain Nine Inch Nails (Broken) feel. But rather than displaying Trent’s teenage rage, Gary brings a more refined aggressiveness to his songs.
