Good Riddance/Kill Your Idols
Split CD (Jade Tree)
by Tim Den
For the first in Jade Tree’s new split EP series, Good Riddance turn in a performance that puts their last three albums to shame. Though only four songs, their contributions to this split see them tackle their heaviest tracks to date without losing their trademark West Coast melodicism. “Grandstanding From the Cheap Seats” sounds like a classic Circle Jerks song, while “Strickland vs. Washington” is a pummeling old schooler that makes Kill Your Idols sound amateur in comparison.
Kill Your Idols, though usually a quality act, sound like they’re falling apart on their three tracks here. Messy, unorganized, and weak (can’t hear the drums)… let’s hope they get their act together when the next record comes calling.
