Kare Joao – Sideman – Review

Kare Joao

Sideman (Jester)
by Tim Den

This is on Arcturus’ vocalist’s (and post-metal mastermind) label and described by the bio as “suicide rock”… but all I can think of is The Stone Roses when I hear it. That, and ’60s panoramic psychedelic rock filtered through modern synthesizers. Bleeps, beats, trailing voices singing Vietnam-era melodies… doesn’t make any sense.

No matter, though, cuz it’s good shit. If a metal dude picked this up, he’d probably break it over his girlfriend’s face or something, but for anyone else who understands that good music needs no genre tags, this is a collection of kickin’ (and trippy) pop tunes.
