Underoath – They’re Only Chasing Safety – Review

Underoath

They’re Only Chasing Safety (Solid State)
by Adrian Bromley

While I was anxious to hear this album after much hyping from a few other scribes in the scene, after a few listens, the new Underoath is leaving me wanting more. Generic mediocre metalcore, for the most part, save for the techno/keyboard bits used on certain songs, Underoath never really build up enough steam for my liking. Granted, there is some variety in terms of the vocal approach, and the guitar riffs are layered nicely (also the production is ace), but Underoath seem to be a bit cluttered with their approach to assembling an album full of parts and styles into a quality product. Perhaps next time, huh?
