Reality Serum – Hop In – Review

“Hop In” (Supple)
by Scott Hefflon

While I haven’t been a fan of hip-hop since the early ’90s, when Public Enemy wrote great songs which happened to have a brilliant rapper and a clown trading riffs like nothing heard before or since, Reality Serum is very appealing. So, this black guy raps, and a bald white guy with a braided beard plays all kinds of trippy ambient guitar washes. Big, swooshing walls of sound and loops of guitar licks dancing like a candle flame offer thoughtful space and creative paths to wander, and, uh, the other guy raps on and on. Recommended for anyone looking for rap that’s far more interesting and creative than the thug-life morons using hip-hop to start another unnecessary clothing line.
