Whether this is the lead single off Weezer’s forthcoming Weezer [Gold Album] or not is debatable (there is conflicting info on that), but “We Might as Well Be Strangers (ft. Wednesday)” is, nonetheless, a step in the right direction compared to what I’ve heard from the band in the last decade and a half (I gave up after Hurley, but the Toto covers were nice). At first, Rivers’ voice is so high it doesn’t sound like him, though when you listen, yeah, it’s Mr. Cuomo. The melodic, fuzzy guitars are nice, and the lyrics dance between trite and heartfelt. Everyone wants the first two records again, but that’s not gonna happen.
