Cutesy chick with “who, me?” vibe makes good as front-woman in an otherwise dude-inhabited outfit. European singer Ivona would make most rock chicks beam.
A few songs here are great. I don’t giddy over male/female indie rock, but infectious songs, cute and fun without being sticky-sweet are gems you dig for.
Blend favorite flavors with shit. Imagine “this is one of my favorites” followed by biting into tinfoil. Or enjoying a $5 milkshake and suddenly tasting piss.
Opens with two Nine Inch Nails-inspired organic/electronic instrumentations. Then, the acoustic “A Girl Like You” crosses into Violent Femmes territory.
Sounding more like Look Up and Live-era Someday I mixed with The Chase Theory. Heavier, less melodramatic, and tasteful dynamics without losing the immediacy.
These guys sound like they’re stylistically kicking the crap out of The Strokes while smoking Stone Temple Pilots’ cigarettes and listening to the Marvelous 3.
Delicate but not fragile hooks, airy but not ethereal production, ornate but not orchestral string accompaniment, all coming together around bulletproof tunes.
