So I guess Buried Alive is no more, eh? Too bad, cuz Last Rites shows that they were just becoming bearable. Unlike their previous records (full of palm-muting monotony), this one shows a band who knows how to anticipate timing and tempo changes. That, and juicy riffs culled from places other than chug-chug-chugs, finally made a purposeful unit out of Buried Alive’s otherwise pointless Snapcase energy. Let’s hope they haven’t called it a day just when their ultra-heavy pummeling was becoming effective.
