Goth is rarely funny intentionally. Voltaire is always a good time, with humorous songs about zombies, dancing skeletons, and all kinds of ghoulish goodness.
Vintersorg’s Andreas Hedlund offers vocal duties to Borknagar. His warm, passionate, folky vocals add depth to any band he’s in, and Vintersorg is his band.
Hard punk/near-rockabilly/greaser rocker rock isn’t exactly where the paycheck’s at these days, so you can bet these poolhall hooligans are in it for the tunes.
Dense in production, complex in arrangement, thick and churning. “Death-Grind Powerhouse” is an apt description, as much as I dislike lifting from bios.
It’s mind-boggling how many sugary-sweet pop punk tunes Dan Schafer (Dan Vapid) has penned or played. Screeching Weasel, Riverdales, and now The Methadones.
Recommended for anyone looking for rap that’s more interesting and creative than the thug-life morons using hip-hop to start another unnecessary clothing line.
15 years deep, and Age of Tyranny is quite possibly their most interesting release in years. I heard harmonies, I heard elongated solos, I was impressed.
They get the elements just right, and often bring something new to the fleet-fingered fun They pull off their pull-offs and ridiculous lyrics with sincerity.
Now on Scarlet, an Italian label, after stints on Metal Blade and Century Media. More mid-tempo warble than the fleet-fingered melodic speedmetal of yore.
Less interesting that Otep, which is to say, they’re awful. Check out Drain S.T.H. (for glorious, layered female harmonies) and Crisis (for banshee wail).
