My Ruin – A Prayer Under Pressure of Violent Anguish – Review

My Ruin

A Prayer Under Pressure of Violent Anguish (Spitfire)
by Scott Hefflon

Tip of the hat for a gorgeous booklet filled with colorful photos, hip slogans, and various iconic imagery. A Prayer blah blah blah opens with some self-important poetry (anyone remember Warrior Soul? No? See?) before launching into roaring/groaning groove metal that sounds like older Kittie and actually makes me long for Marilyn Manson’s sense of pacing and loud/soft dynamics.

In other words, it hits a stride and then waves some interesting distractions every so often, but mostly just does time on the nü metal treadmill. But I like the photos of colorful tats, heavy make-up, and smoldering stares. Now if only the music was on par with the fashion…

p.s. For those with short attention spans or who are new to this slowly dying fad, singer Tairrie B. was the busty singer/rapper in Manhole, then her own band, Tura Satana, which she then quit (how do you quit your own band?), who’s trying yet again with this good-looking line-up. I hear they’re big overseas, but then so is Baywatch.
